We are afraid. 

If nothing else, the novel coronavirus has taught us that #fear is real and fear is powerful. We don’t want to die. We want to socially distance ourselves from all things that remind of us our mortality. This virus is an ironic plague crippling our minds and actions. 

We know that we are not immortal, yet we live 

In this fear, we may find ourselves asking: 

  • Did we do enough with our lives?
  • Did our lives matter?
  • Did you make a difference?
  • Did you do what you came here to do?

How do you stay grounded in the uncertainty of it all? 

Simple, be a witness and … tell your story. 

I believe the most sincere and vulnerable thing we can ask anyone is “Will you be a witness to my life?” Isn’t that why we are all here? To fulfill a purpose but to do so where we leave a mark, where people actually witness and benefit from our good? 

In times of fear, witness the lives of others and then share your #story. Why? Because you’ll realize that life is about right now. As long as air moves through your lungs, life matters. 

While we are all coming inside and logging on to stay connected, I want to challenge you to host a #witnessmylife party. 

Turn on your camera, invite your friends or coworkers and share your stories. 

Ask questions like: 

  • In your life, what are you most proud of? 
  • What’s one unexpected benefit of being inside?
  • How are you holding up?
  • How has your perspective changed about family, friends, work etc?
  • What used to matter to you, but now does not?
  • What motivated you to go into your line of work?
  • What is your favorite childhood memory?
  • Who is your favorite person on the planet?
  • If you could have one dream or wish fulfilled, what would it be?
  • What is your favorite memory?
  • What do you forgive yourself for?
  • What could you have been doing this whole time that you enjoy?
  • What do you want to be known for? 

Ask and listen and respond in kind.

Now is the time to focus on what’s important. Practice gratitude. We are sharing a common experience. Use this to really see each other past our worry, anxiety and fear. Use this time to stay grounded in what’s important.

Your stories are real and powerful. 

Tell them now. Tell them often.
